Crimes Nearby: Woman Charged with Theft from Disabled Persons Under Her Care

Three Village

A thief or thieves stole an American Express credit card from a wallet and a Tag Heuer watch from a locker at St. George's Golf Club on Oct. 7, according to police reports. Police are investigating both incidents as separate grand larcenies.

According to reports the credit card, which was later used at various stores, went missing between 12:30 p.m. and 3:20 p.m. The watch, whose owner valued it at greater than $1,000, disappeared from a locker between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. the same day.

Miller Place-Rocky Point

On Oct. 14, Brian Poirier, 24, of Sound Beach, was arrested on Echo at around 8:30 p.m. for Second Degree Criminal Contempt. No other information was available as of Monday.

Louis Volpe, 21, of Miller Place was arrested Oct. 3 in Shirley and charged with third degree grand larceny. Reports indicate Volpe was arrested for the alleged theft of jewelry. Reports state he was arrested on County Rd. 46.

Riverhead

The former manager of a Northampton group home for developmentally disabled people was charged with petty larceny for allegedly stealing money from her wards, Southampton Town Police said. Police said Nicole Leggon, 28, of Riverhead pocketed about $400 in cash from the residents of the Aid to the Developmentally Disabled home in Northampton between June 1 and Sept. 1.

She was the house manager at the time, but is now unemployed, according to her arrest report. The residents of the home were reimbursed for the losses, police said.

A Flanders man was arrested by Southampton Town Police and charged with numerous drug-related violations after police allegedly found he was carrying a quantity of drugs including PCP, heroin, marijuana and both crack and powered cocaine, on Saturday morning. Natia Yisrael, 36, was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for a traffic violation on Flanders Road in Riverside at 12:46 a.m, according to a police report. Police found he was carrying various illegal drugs and arrested him, police said. Yisrael was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana and resisting arrest.

A Riverhead man was charged with drunk driving on Sunday after police said he crashed head-on into another car on Montauk Highway, sending both drivers to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Jose Carabantes, 25, was arrested by on Sunday at about 10:35 p.m. in Water Mill and charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and driving without a license and failure to maintain lane, both infractions.

Police said Carabantes was driving a 2001 Mitsubishi eastbound on Montauk Highway when he crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a 1989 Chevrolet pickup. Both drivers were taken to for non-life threatening injuries, according to police. Because of his injuries, Carabantes was released at the hospital on an appearance ticket, pending future legal action, police said.
