Father and Son Charged in Coram Kidnapping

According to Suffolk Police, Sheldon and Latif Davis forced a man to drive around at gunpoint on Sunday.

A father and son from Coram stand charged with felony kidnapping charges after Suffolk County Police say they forced a man to drive them around at gunpoint on Sunday afternoon.

According to Suffolk County Police, Sheldon and Latif Davis approached a 24-year-old man getting into his car on Wilson Avenue in Middle Island around 4 p.m. Cops say they forced him to drive around for an hour and 45 minutes, and then made him pull into Plaza 16 on Route 25 in Coram, where they got out and went into the Dominican Star Bodega.

The victim reportedly escaped at that time and called 911, and Suffolk P.D. shortly thereafter picked up Sheldon, 40, outside the bodega and Latif, 22, inside the shop.

In addition to felony charges of second-degree kidnapping, both men were charged with second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor. Latif was additionally charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a felony, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor.

Both men will be held at the Sixth Precinct and are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday.
