Fire Breaks Out a Second Time at Mt. Sinai House Struck by Lightning

Firefighters returned to the scene at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday after battling the blaze for more than six hours on Friday afternoon.

A fire on Friday in a Mt. Sinai home on Crabapple Court, which was caused by a lightning strike, brought firefighters back to the scene when it reignited on Saturday morning, according to a report published Saturday in Newsday.

Mount Sinai's First Assistant Fire Chief, David Taylor, said the Saturday fire started in the attic and was discovered by a worker returning to check out the scene, according to the report. Firefighters arrived at 7:45 a.m. and remained until the early afternoon.

Taylor told Newsday that the roof of the two-story, wood-framed house had collapsed following the first fire, making it difficult for firefighters to battle the blaze on Saturday. Firefighters from at least eight different departments worked for six hours at the scene on Friday.
