Firefighters Battle Belle Terre Garage Fire

Wednesday night blaze was stopped before it spread to the house.

Firefighters from Port Jefferson, Terryville, and Mt. Sinai fought a garage fire at a home on Club Road in Belle Terre on Wednesday night, stopping the blaze from overtaking the house.

According to assistant chief Paul Langlois, who served as operations chief at the scene, flames were visible from down the block as the crews approached at approximately 6:08 p.m. About 25 firefighters converged on the garage, he said, and the fire was extinguished by 6:42 p.m.

The occupants were not home at the time of the fire, which is under investigation by Brookhaven Town fire marshals and the Suffolk County Police Department arson squad. No injuries to firefighters were reported.
