Cops Arrest 4 in Relation to Port Jeff, Miller Place Burglaries

Police say three men and one woman arrested Wednesday burglarized multiple homes.

Suffolk County police on Wednesday arrested four people whom they say burglarized multiple homes in the Port Jefferson, Miller Place, Selden, and Setauket areas.

Police arrested Colleen Elam, Maurice Jones, Darnell Loften, and Sion Sosa after they fled the scene of a burglary they had allegedly committed at an East Setauket home at approximately 12:10 p.m. Wednesday. According to a report, police arrested three of the suspects after their vehicle was stopped on Black Locust Ave. in East Setauket. One more suspect fled on foot and hid in a shed behind a house on Partridge Lane in East Setauket before being arrested.

Elam, 18, of Selden, was charged with four counts of second-degree burglary and one count of possession of burglar’s tools.

Jones, 18, of Centereach, was charged with four counts of second-degree burglary, resisting arrest and one count of possession of burglar’s tools.

Sosa, 17, of Centereach, was charged with five counts of second-degree burglary, fourth-degree criminal mischief, third-degree criminal trespass and one count of possession of burglar’s tools.

Loften, 19, of Middle Island, was charged with six counts of second-degree burglary and one count of possession of burglar’s tools.

The burglary and arrests caused a half-hour lockdown at and .

The arrests were made by Sixth Precinct Squad detectives, Sixth Precinct Crime Control officers, patrol officers, and Community Oriented Police Enforcement officers. The four are scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Central Islip.
