Incident Report: Police Investigate Thefts Involving Unlocked Cars

The Suffolk County Police Department reported the following incidents between June 10 and June 14.

GRAND LARCENY

  • A resident of Katherine Street in Port Jefferson Station reported that someone stole a wallet from an unlocked car, which was parked in the driveway of the home, sometime between 5 p.m. on June 13 and 6:30 a.m. on June 14.
  • A resident of Overton Avenue in Port Jefferson reported that someone stole multiple debit and credit cards from inside an unlocked car, which was parked in the driveway of the home, sometime between 10 p.m. on June 13 and 7:30 a.m. on June 14.
  • A business owner on Hallock Avenue in Port Jefferson Station reported that someone broke into two vehicles and stole landscaping equipment including a chain saw, a lawn mower and other items. The theft is believed to have taken place sometime between 3:30 p.m. on June 7 and 6 a.m. on June 10.
BURGLARY
  • A resident of Buena Vista Road in Belle Terre reported June 10 at 5 p.m. that someone stole a computer and other valuables from the home. According to a police report, the thief allegedly entered the basement through an unlocked rear door and then pried open the door to the main part of the house.
CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
  • The owner of a car that was parked at Congregational Church on North Country Road in Mt. Sinai reported that someone had damaged it sometime between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. on June 10. The car, a 2009 Honda Civic, had its front bumper kicked in and the doors scratched.
