From the headline and opening paragraph I thought someone got stabbed in actual Port Jefferson and was worried. From now on when something happens in uptown port it should be described as "Puerto Jefferson" so we don't get confused.

hey bryan as a puerto rican woman who lives in port jeff i take offense to such an ignorant statement ! port jeff is a melting pot of so many different spanish and american cultures so do us all a favor before u come off as an ignorant racist , LEARN THE DIFFERENCE! DONT LABEL PEOPLE. I own my own home, drive a new car and work three jobs, and my family prides themselves on the same, i am saddened in 2012 to hear a comment like that.

As funny as this sounds, it is a very serious situation in our town that has been allowed to get out of hand. So many people make comments about our town as the next Brentwood or Central Islip. How many people are going to be stabbed/shot/robbed/assaulted, etc until there are killings before the police actually do something? Notice the article states "no arrests were made" - why not? The Port Jefferson Station/Terryville Civic Association's January 22, 2013 meeting will be addressing this subject. The meeting is at the Comsewogue Library at 7PM, please contact the associations president Ed Graboski at edpjtcivic@aol.com or myself Janice at monaco01@hotmail.com (I am the Recording Secretary) for more information. We will have Inspector Oswald of the SCPD and Kara Hahn there to hear our voices and concerns and to answer what is going to be done to clean this mess up. We want all community members, whether or not they belong to the civic association, including business owners and their employees to be in attendance so the whole community can be heard. Please come - this is what the civic association is about, the quality of life in our community!

Bryan and Chewbacala, you both should be ashamed of yourselves.
Chewbacala December 07, 2012 at 03:45 PM
I was simply trying to make a joke on his comment. There is nothing for me to be ashamed of. I am not agreeing with his statement in any way, and that is why I took my comment down. It's the equivalent of someone saying Barcelona and me joking and saying you mean 'barthelona'. I am not trying to offend anyone I am simply trying to make some people laugh in this ALL TOO SERIOUS comment board. That being said, I DO think it is sad that 'upper' Port Jefferson is turning into what it is and it is only a matter of time before it starts creeping Down Port if nothing is done about it.

It's a disgrace....Upper Port has been the orphan of port for years now...It oft appears that anything south of North Country Rd, is NOT part of Port Jeff...and since it IS PJ, it cannot be governed (or assisted) by Town of Brookhaven codes...So it is a forgotten zone...The town mentality being "as long as it stays up there, then it's ok"....Upper port residents/businesses are not included in any of the port jeff events (they even took away the chalk walk years ago)...Pax Christi "residents" wander the streets, begging, staggering, loitering...no one cares...A pool hall exists in a town where the code prohibits it....A slimy shop owner lives in his overcrowded, dirty shop, breaking one code after another..no one cares...Signage, which is, by code, NOT allowed to cover entire windows, is plastered all over, completely covering windows in many cases...no one cares... Property owners have seen their values plummet,,,,Business owners have lost their investments & livelihoods....No one cares... Upper Port IS part of Port Jefferson...When will someone care?
THE SOCIAL WORKER December 07, 2012 at 06:50 PM
the cops are too busy giving out tickets to all the cars of people eating dinner than walking the streets for crime !! shame on the mayor
Candace Gonzalez-Donin December 07, 2012 at 09:34 PM
sorry if i misunderstood u Chewbacala.....someone got stabbed, so i think it is appropriate to be serious about it. it is a shame that upper port has deteriorated, but it is also unfair for others to criticize our fellow human beings for their race....i agree with Mels Ditties that the town codes aren't being enforced and this allows for some of the eye-sores and crimes to continue.....where is the town of Brookhaven on this?
Chewbacala December 07, 2012 at 09:41 PM
Like I said, I wasn't agreeing with the racial tone of the comment. That is why I removed it. It was a cheap attempt at humor on my part and I meant no offense by it. Like I said, I saw that the 'pronunciation' was off in his comment and tried to turn it into a joke. And I am sorry if anyone took offense to it before I took it down. But I appreciate your apology. I think the biggest problem is that once you get to 'upper port' people think they are in port jeff station and that it is the norm. When in fact Upper Port, like Mels said, IS part of Port Jefferson. They need to start treating it as such or it is only a matter of time before we start seeing the problems creep down the street.

IT IS SO TRUE, PORT JEFF AND PORT JEFF STATION NEEDS TO BE CLEANED UP! FIRST, DO AWAY WITH THE CRACK HOUSE ON MAPLE AVE. , TWO BLOCKS FROM THE TRAIN STATION AND TWO BLOCKS FROM THE 7/11 HANGOUT. THE POLICE KNOW IT'S THERE AND DO NOTHING ABOUT IT - SO DOES THE OFFICE ON THE CORNER OF MAIN STREET WHO RENTS THE HOUSE TO THE GANG. THEY SUPPLY EVERYONE CRACK INCLUDING THE PAX CHRISTI PEOPLE. IT'S CONVENIENT TO GET THEIR CRACK AT THE LITTLE HOUSE AND CONTINUE TO WALK TO 7/11 FOR THEIR BEER. I LIVE ON THE NEXT BLOCK AND SEE THIS HAPPENING ALL DAY. I AM IN FEAR OF THESE PEOPLE, SO DO NOT PUBLISH MY NAME.
Janice December 09, 2012 at 06:52 PM
Cindy and Ron, please see my post regarding this very subject at the next meeting of the Port Jefferson Station/Terryville Civic Association on January 22, 2013 at the Comsewogue Library at 7PM. Kara Hahn and Inspector Oswald are scheduled to be in attendance to answer what is/will be done to clean this mess up. One resident has suggested to have reps from the LIRR and the MTA police to attend - we are trying to get someone from each of these to be present at the meeting. Also please let's stop apologizing for being "racist" - no one is being racist, it is what it is. The Hope House is now Father Frank's Pax Christi for homeless in the area and also they come in by taxi from other areas. This needs to be cleaned up/regulated. The homeless shelter has been allowed to get out of control. In order to clean our town up the community must come together as a whole, residents and business owners, to make the police and politicians hear our voices! Please come to the civic association meeting on January 22, 2013 at the Comsewogue Library at 7PM.
