Man Arrested For Port Jefferson Station Home Invasion

Knife wielding man in a Halloween-style mask forced his way into a Port Jefferson Station home, stole iPhone, credit cards and money.

Suffok County Police arrested a man early this morning who is accused of forcing his way into a Port Jefferson Station home at knifepoint. A resident of a home on Shenandoah Blvd. called police at about 10 p.m. to say that a man wearing a “Halloween-style” mask and wielding a knife forced his way into her house after she answered a knock at the door. The man threatened the resident and then stole an iPhone, credit cards and cash.

The man - who fled on foot after the robbery - was captured at approximately 1:50 a.m. this morning by Sixth Precinct detectives. He is identified as Edwin Canela, 32, of Roosevelt and it turned out that he is a boyfriend of the victim’s sister. It was unclear if the sister was in the residence at the time of the robbery. Police report that the stolen items and weapon were recovered.

Canela was charged with Robbery 1st Degree and Burglary 1st Degree and is being held at the Sixth Precinct. He is scheduled to be arraigned at the First District Court in Central Islip today.
