Man Arrested in Port Jeff Station for Tool Thefts

Tools stolen from Miller Place and Coram.

A Middle Island man was arrested Sunday morning in Port Jefferson Station after he allegedly stole tools and construction equipment from five different storage facilities in Suffolk County over a two month period.

Arthur Strumpfler, 43, was arrested in a parking lot on Route 112 near Sagamore Hills Drive, Port Jefferson Station after two officers noticed a suspicious vehicle and placed it under surveillance. Police say they approached Strumfler, when he admitted to the theft on Mill Road.

Strumpfler was charged with five counts of third degree grand larceny and one count of third degree burglary. The items were stolen from five different facilities including a Town of Brookhaven-owned building located in Miller Place and a privately owned yard located on Mill Road in Coram. A police spokesperson could not specify the exact items that were stolen.

The investigation is continuing by detectives in the Third and Fourth Squads.
