Cops: Port Jeff Man, Waves Gun, Resists Arrest, Punches Nurse

Man arrested for threatening someone with a gun and resisting arrest ended his night punching a nurse at Mather Hospital.

A Coram man who started his night threatening someone with a gun in Port Jefferson village, punched a nurse in the Emergency Room at after resisting arrest, according to police.

On Saturday night, Eric Perez, 19, of Coram, allegedly waved a gun at another person prompting a call to 911. Police say that Perez got violent with officers and kicked in the back seat of a patrol car while he was being arrested on the corner of Main Street and Maple Avenue at 10:25 p.m. Police took Perez to Mather Hospital to be checked out for injuries sustained while resisting arrest.

At 12:57 a.m. on Sunday morning, while in the ER, Perez then allegedly punched a nurse whose name was not disclosed by police. It is not known why Perez punched the nurse or the nurse’s condition after the assault.

Perez was arrested and charged with assault, menacing, resisting arrest and criminal mischief.
