Missing Student Located in Port Jefferson

Community responds to help find 11-year-old boy.

An 11-year-old boy who went missing after getting off his school bus at his regular bus stop Monday was located safely and found to be unharmed, according to a report published on Examiner.com.

According to the report, the boy, a sixth-grader at Port Jefferson Middle School, got off the bus at approximately 2:30 p.m. and did not return home. A community-wide search involving law enforcement was able to locate the boy at around 6:30 p.m.

Port Jefferson school superintendent Kenneth Bossert told Patch on Tuesday that an automated call sent out by the district alerted parents to the missing child.

"It was a good deal of time so law enforcement was involved. ... We were very pleased with how helpful everybody was," he said.

Examiner reported that the school district credited Suffolk County police and Port Jefferson Village constable chief with locating the boy. It was not immediately clear where he was located.
