More Than 8,000 Without Power in Port Jefferson, PJ Station, Mount Sinai

Thousands in the dark following Sandy's Long Island strike.

More than 8,000 people in the Port Jefferson area are in the dark Monday night, as Hurricane Sandy lashed the area with crippling high winds.

As of 8 p.m., the Long Island Power Authority's outage map showed 1,610 without power in Port Jefferson, 3,133 without power in Port Jefferson Station and 4,606 powerless in Mount Sinai.

There are currently 326,604 without power in Suffolk County, and a total of 592,925 across Long Island.
