More Than 8,000 Without Power in Port Jefferson, PJ Station, Mount Sinai

Thousands in the dark following Sandy's Long Island strike.

More than 8,000 people in the Port Jefferson area are in the dark Monday night, as Hurricane Sandy lashed the area with crippling high winds.

As of 8 p.m., the Long Island Power Authority's outage map showed 1,610 without power in Port Jefferson, 3,133 without power in Port Jefferson Station and 4,606 powerless in Mount Sinai.

There are currently 326,604 without power in Suffolk County, and a total of 592,925 across Long Island.

My mom lives off of Old Post Road near Jefferson Landing....I worry about the trees in the area. Any report on how that area of Port Jeff is?

LIPA...7 to 10 days...la de da...Like it's nothing!!!....How's about when my next bill shows up I tell them "I'll send it out in maybe 7-10 days"....Wouldn't that be lovely!!

My son managed to get to 112 and Sheep Pasture....Power out all over the place there...Phone service (Optimum OUT)....Verizon phone service working.... Don't know about trees..but haven't seen any reports on the news for that area....
