An oil truck overturned in Mt. Sinai on Route 83 near the intersection with Mt. Sinai-Coram Road close to Heritage Park on Friday afternoon. The crash occured at about 12:30 p.m., according to police.
Emergency crews are on the scene and a small leak was reported coming from the truck. No word from police on the condition of the driver.
Mount Sinai Fire Department and Suffolk Police reponded to the scene and emergency workers were inspecting the truck.
No cause for the accident was given by officials but wet snow and sleet had caused slushy conditions in that area at the time.
The southbound lane of Route 83 has been closed to traffic between Route 25A and Mt. Sinai Coram Road. Drivers wishing to head south on Route 83 are encouraged to use the bypass around the accident on Mt. Sinai Coram Road just west of the scene off of Route 25A.
