PHOTO: Mt. Sinai Firefighters Recognized at Installation Dinner

Department members honored for service at annual dinner.

The Mt. Sinai Fire Department held its annual Installation Dinner held on at Majestic Gardens in Rocky Point on May 4.

Legis. Sarah Anker and Councilwoman Jane Bonner were on hand to recognize the members.

“It’s an honor to attend this celebration to honor our volunteers who put their lives at risk to helpothers,” Anker said. “During the February blizzard, the Mt. Sinai Fire Department volunteers helped a constituent during a medical emergency. The man needed to get to thehospital, but was unable to get out of his home. The firefighters were able to transport him ona sled to get him to a a waiting ambulance."

Lieutenant Robert Pobjecky was named Firefighter of the Year for his efforts in the rescue and for showing further compassion by shoveling the man’s driveway so that he could attend follow up doctor visits.

In addition to the many awards given at the event, Harry Randall received recognition for his 60 years of dedicated service, Henry Knoernschild for 50 years of dedicated service and Ronald Bobrowsky and John Roddy were both recognized for devoting 40 years of service.
