Police Dog Helps Track Port Jefferson Station Pair Charged With Larceny

Port Jefferson Station men charged after attempting to steal a quad; found with two stolen motorcycles.

Canine Officer John Mallia and his dog, Blue, helped track down two alleged Port Jefferson Station quad thieves early Tuesday morning.

According to police, Jonathan Delrio and Ray Pena, of Port Jefferson Station, were charged with fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property and fourth degree attempted grand larceny, both felonies, for attempting to steal a quad and possessing a stolen motorcycle after Officer Malia and Blue tracked the suspects for two miles.

Suffolk Police responded to a report of two men attempting to steal the quad on Colony Road in Selden at 1:45 a.m. on April 30. The officer and his dog established a track, which led them about two miles from the start location to the rear yard of a home on Newport Avenue where Blue led police toward a shed that had a lock cut off with bolt cutters lying nearby.

After speaking to the residents of the home, it was found that two motorcycles had been stolen from the shed. Police later found Delrio and Pena riding on one of the stolen motorcycles on Magnolia Drive in Selden.

Pena was also charged with an outstanding bench warrant. The two were scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
