Police: Driver Drunk in Wrong-Way Crash, Two Seriously Hurt

Crash early Sunday morning in Smithtown seriously injures two people.

A Selden man was drunk behind the wheel and driving the wrong-way on Route 347 in Smithtown early Sunday morning when he collided head-on with another vehicle, seriously injuring two people inside, police said.

According to police, Pedro Hernandez, 24, was driving a gray 2000 Toyota Camry eastbound in the westbound lanes of Route 347, just west of Southern Boulevard, when his vehicle struck a red 2006 Toyota Corolla around 5:30 a.m.

The Corolla’s driver, Reyna Pena, 52, and her passenger, Lorenzo Rodriguez, 53, were both transported and admitted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Hernandez was also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police charged Hernandez with DWI and he will be arraigned at a later date.

Police are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.

No, you live in Bigotville where people make fools of themselves by making huge ASSumptions. Now go hide under your bed waiting for the "evil minorities" to come take you away while the rest of us take care of business and get things accomplished.

Wow. I don't even know how to respond to brookhavenconfucius and Smithtown Bull. All this talk of "these people" is just further proof that it's people like you who are in need of help. How do I say this any clearer? There...is...no...mention...of...race...or...ethnicity...in...this...article. People were hurt because of the stupidity of a drunk driver. Just be glad it wasn't you that was the victim - or the criminal! Boy, what would they say about you then?
