A Selden man was drunk behind the wheel and driving the wrong-way on Route 347 in Smithtown early Sunday morning when he collided head-on with another vehicle, seriously injuring two people inside, police said.
According to police, Pedro Hernandez, 24, was driving a gray 2000 Toyota Camry eastbound in the westbound lanes of Route 347, just west of Southern Boulevard, when his vehicle struck a red 2006 Toyota Corolla around 5:30 a.m.
The Corolla’s driver, Reyna Pena, 52, and her passenger, Lorenzo Rodriguez, 53, were both transported and admitted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries, police said.
Hernandez was also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police charged Hernandez with DWI and he will be arraigned at a later date.
