A Port Jefferson woman has been arrested after police say she left her 6-year-old son home alone overnight and into Friday afternoon.
Melissa Weiner, 31, is charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Police said Weiner's son was outside and stopped a Port Jefferson Village constable at about 12:25 p.m. Friday and told him he was home alone.
Sixth Precinct officers responded to the home on Windward Drive and determined the boy had home alone since 8 p.m. Thursday, police said.
The boy, who was not injured, was released to a family member and Child Protective Services was notified, police said.
Weiner is being held at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.
