Port Jeff Ferry Hires Bomb Sniffing Dogs

A Manorville security company will provide canine explosive detection to Port Jeff ferries.

The has hired a Manorville-based security firm called Long Island K-9 Service to provide security services on its ferries using trained dogs to detect potential threats from explosives. According to a statement by the security firm, this is the first ferry in the United States to receive a federal grant to implement explosive detection canine teams.

The hiring of Long Island K-9 Service is one part of security measures that stem back to the terrorist attacks of 9/11.

“With keen awareness of the potential for terrorist activity or narcotics exchange, the company has greatly enhanced security measures,” read a statement. “Including increased awareness training for employees, cutting-edge technology, and explosives detection canine teams.”
