Port Jeff Firefighters Find Home Not Fit For Man Nor Beast

After a fire in Port Jefferson home, man charged with animal cruelty.

Robert Campbell, of Port Jefferson, was charged with animal cruelty after firefighters found four Alaskan huskies living in unsafe conditions in his Oakwood Road home, according to a story in The Port Times Record.

Chief James Makarius told the paper that "firefighters who went into the house found 'barely room to walk around,' animal feces on the floor, and clutter that left narrow pathways 'about the width of your body to walk around the entire house — books, papers and whatever else.'"

He also said firefighters found an open cesspool in the backyard and the four dogs in the basement.
