Port Jeff Station Man Found Dead in N.J.

Nearly two weeks after Thomas Klein was found dead, police and prosecutors are investigating.

A man whose last known address was in Port Jefferson Station was found dead on a front porch in Bridgeton, N.J., though police are still searching for answers.

According to Bridgeton Capt. Michael Gaimari, 25-year-old Thomas Klein was found unresponsive the morning of July 11 after nearby residents awoke to gun shots. Police arrived shortly after 7:30 to find him on the front porch of a home in the 100 block of S. Pine Street, the victim of a shooting.

Nearly two weeks later, Gaimari offered little in the way of details, only noting on Tuesday morning that the Bridgeton Police Department was working with Cumberland County prosecutors. Police said at the time of the arrest that there was no apparent motive.

Klein was originally reported by police to be homeless, with no local address in the area. He had been arrested five times in Bridgeton between June 9 and the day he died – the last coming just hours before his death, when he was arrested on a charge of defiant trespassing – according to NJ.com.

According to police, Klein had been in Bridgeton and the surrounding areas since the beginning of June.
