Port Jefferson Station House Burns Down Days Before Christmas

The local fire department was called to the scene of a fire that began in the basement Sunday evening.

On Sunday, during the department Santa Claus parade, the Terryville Fire Department was alerted that they were needed for a fire at a house in Port Jefferson Station on Greenhaven Drive.

Although the firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, there was so much damage to the home that it might not be fixable. The fire department could not confirm how the fire started, only saying that it originated in the basement. Thankfully none of the family members were injured.

"The TFD expresses its sadness and sympathy to the family that lost their home just days before Christmas," said the department on their Facebook site.

The family was unable to be reached.
