Port Jefferson Station HSBC Bank Robbed Tuesday Afternoon

HSBC Bank near Port Jefferson Post Office got robbed via a demand note Tuesday.

Update at 9:15 p.m.:

Police have arrested Rocky Point man and charged him with attempted robbery of the bank as police say the man fled before the teller could comply with his demand for cash. Read the full story here

Update from the scene at 5:12 p.m.:

Police on the scene confirmed that the incident took place a little after 2 p.m. and that there were three detectives currently working inside of the bank collecting evidence. 

The officers also confirmed that the bank would remain closed until the investigation was completed, but said they were unsure how long that would be. 

Witnesses on the scene confirmed that they saw officers speaking to a few people regarding the robbery. It is unclear if they were inside the bank at the time of the incident or if they were just witnesses. 

Police would not confirm if they have a suspect or if there was any arrests made.

While on the scene, a female detective could be seen wearing white gloves and placing items such as what looked like a piece of paper into protective bags for analysis.

Detectives declined to comment regarding the robbery.

According to the public information office for the Sixth Precinct, the HSBC located at 574 Jefferson Plaza in Port Jefferson Station was robbed Tuesday afternoon. 

A perpetrator entered the bank and demanded cash through a note that was handed to one of the bank tellers, police said. 

In a call to the bank, an associate did answer and said, "The bank is closed right now and I am unable to go into details about the incident."

Police officers are currently on scene.
