Stabbing Suspect Caught After Chopper Search Sunday Night

Robert Trocchio of Port Jefferson Station remains held on $25,000 bail.

A Port Jefferson Station man was arrested on a felony assault charge after a helicopter search on Sunday night, after Suffolk County Police said he stabbed another man in Port Jefferson Station around 6:30 p.m.

Police said two men got into a fight on Route 25A and Robert Trocchio, 50, was tracked down around 10 p.m. after police searched on land and through the air to find him.

No details were available in relation to specifics of the incident, though a police spokesperson said Trocchio – a Clifton Place resident – and the homeless man he reportedly stabbed were likely known to one another.

A local resident brought up the incident at Monday night's Village Board meeting, saying she heard K-9s on the ground as well.

The 46-year-old victim in the incident was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. Police said he suffered lacerations on his cheek and arm.

Online court records show that Trocchio was seen in court on Monday. A temporary order of protection was placed against him, and he remains held on $50,000 bond or $25,000 cash bail, and is due back in court on Friday.
