State Announces $80 Million in Security Grants

The governor's office said Nassau and Suffolk counties will both receive money for a bomb squad initiative.

The governor's office on Tuesday said $80 million in grant money will be used to strengthen local emergency preparedness programs.

The state and federal money will be distributed through the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.

On Long Island, the Suffolk County Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services is expected to net $118,750, while the Nassau County Fire Marshal will earn $149,798, according to the governor's office, which released a detailed list of where the money is going.

Nassau and Suffolk counties were also each rewarded slightly more than $200,000 in grants for a bomb squad initiative.

In a statement, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said, "New York has seen some of the nation's worst disasters in recent years, and this $80 million will go a long way to strengthening the network of locally-based emergency response infrastructure across our state."
