Supervisor Declares State of Emergency In Brookhaven

Residents are asked to stay off the roads.

Supervisor Ed Romaine declared a state of emergency for Brookhaven Town on Friday effective at 6:30 p.m. due to the fierce winter blizzard blanketing the area.

The state of emergency is meant to remind residents that emergency vehicles should be the only vehicles on town roadways to permit town snow plows to pass through; driving is extremely dangerous.

Residents are reminded to stay away from all downed wires and await the proper response should they encounter any on the road.

Residents can also call 451-TOWN to report snow-related issues.

To report a power outage or downed wires, residents can call LIPA at 1-800-490-0075 or 631-755-6900, or go to www.lipower.org to make a report online.

Robin, it seems Paul is getting off on making you mad. Ignore him. Then he'll have to find another way to get excited :)
ROBIN February 10, 2013 at 02:57 AM
MP Ur right maybe Paul can log onto a PORNO Site and get his Rocks off that way ! LOL :0)

Don't bother calling 451-TOWN, all you will get is a wise-ass who will tell you that you're screwed, and will not be able to give you any information. It will only agitate you further, so don't call. If you have an emergency, call 911 and they will figure out how to get to you. Whoever is running this circus should be fired, but that won't happen. They will very likely be promoted for doing such a crappy job, and then get a nice pension compliments of the taxpayers. Gotta love Brookhaven. A billion tons of salt for a 1/2 inch of snow, but not a single plow for 3 feet of snow. Where do they find these geniuses?
Frustrated February 10, 2013 at 11:57 AM
Heard a plow but it made a uturn, leaving a large circle of snow on Cedar and it never made it onto Locust Ave.....I really thought that they would hit the side streets at least once by now but the plowing seems to be haphazard. Are they really plowing the sidestreets? I heard from someone with a big 4 x 4 that he'd been out towing drivers out of the snow for hours all over MP, SB, RP, Coram, and PJ and he never once saw a plow...only other crazy individuals helping their friends and neighbors who are stuck. I know that this was a huge storm but where is the help from Gov Cuomo, Mayor B, and Nassau Cty that is being hailed on News 12? Anyone? Has your road been plowed yet?
Tom February 10, 2013 at 01:26 PM
They get these geniuses when you elect the clowns you elect. Same clowns year after year and no one learns these clowns think it's a complete career. You get what you get because no one wants to give the new guy a chance to improve things. Write the things you don't like on a peice of paper and add to it everytime something goes wrong. Come election day go over it before you vote. If the list has over 3 or 4 things on it then its time for a change ya think!!!
Tom February 10, 2013 at 01:28 PM
Romain is away on vacation
Patchogue Snoop February 10, 2013 at 01:34 PM
Calm down folks..are you that spoiled that you cant deal with a snow disaster? The town is doing what they can, besides that alot of stranded people are sitting on the roads, making it even more difficult to plow. Inconvience is soooo difficult, isnt it!!! Must be a town hack. Spoiled???? I pay the highest property taxes in the country....spoiled?? To get the lowest level of services because of Crookhaven thieves.
Patchogue Snoop February 10, 2013 at 01:35 PM
Hey come on...Brookhaven town hwy guys are out making drug deliveries. Take it easy spoiled people. And our former hack Rouse is now rewarded with at cushy judgeship. Crooked politics....nahhh
MP resident February 10, 2013 at 05:38 PM
You're right, Snoop. We have a lot of nerve to complain. They have the right to do less work on more salary. To everyone: Vote LoSquadro on March 3. Maybe he'll give the highway dept. a kick in the pants.

YAAAYYY, Robin!! Glad to hear that!! Still waiting over here. Schools are cancelled for tomorrow since all of MP wasn't plowed yet. Oh well, and least it's good for the kids! Enjoy the day!
RPchick February 10, 2013 at 07:34 PM
Maybe now you can get to a library
Jackie February 10, 2013 at 08:15 PM
WHAT DO WE PAY TAXES FOR????!!!! Haven't seen a damn snow plow AT ALL come down my block!!! I slept in my car getting stuck in the snow Friday night, and even THEN there were plows parked on the side of the road bullshitting, and maybe three of them even working. It's BULLSHIT!!
ROBIN February 10, 2013 at 09:05 PM
thank u mp yes schools closed tomorro yahhhhhh for me and my son !! We get to sleep late !! HAVE A GREAT WEEK, SOON IT WILL BE SPRING...............
Frustrated February 10, 2013 at 09:07 PM
Locust Ave, Cedar, Heather being plowed now....I heard they are working on the north side of 25A in MP, too! Hang in there...they're coming!! Good luck to all!
Vinny February 10, 2013 at 10:18 PM
It's now called "pulling a lipa."
Tom February 10, 2013 at 10:28 PM
It's always been called a lipa deal. Crookhaven same thing. The service we get for what we pay is disgusting. Go any place outside of NY and the roads are so much better and cleaner with trimmed plantings. Not here. I only wish I wasn't forced to stay here right now. By the way we pay the most for the least. I wonder why????
Vinny February 10, 2013 at 11:22 PM
We should see how other states are run

Tom February 11, 2013 at 12:02 AM
Got that right but they won't. It would expose their lack of knowledge in running our towns. It's a real circle jerk this town of Crookhaven.
tcb February 11, 2013 at 01:21 AM
Im in middle island and no plows not even on friday. Our taxes 12, 000 and silent are the streets.. but whats worse is the women across the street called ambulance & they got stuck on our road which is packed with I over 30 cars and trucks. We the neighbors dug the ambulance out !! no one else came to rescue as stated above. If there was proper planning salting sanding plowing from the start of storm I really dont think it would have gotten so bad.. hey if it rains tomorrow plow trucks may continue to not help the residential streets....
Vinny February 11, 2013 at 02:03 AM
Yes but they salted during rain storm last week because that makes sense. I was getting pelted at a light by a town truck in setauket on a secondary road.
Carol Anthony February 11, 2013 at 02:06 AM
@ TCB: Your point says it all. 'Not enough snow plows available to handle the volume of snow' was an excuse that we heard in my community where we have a lot of elderly residents. It's 7 pm and I haven't seen a plow yet. The town knew what was coming and still wasn't ready. Incredible.
moethegrass February 11, 2013 at 02:08 AM
Romaine was a Great town Supervisor, until he got elected
Grace DePaolo February 11, 2013 at 04:05 AM
It's 11pm, Sunday evening. My development has not been touched! No cars on Rte. 112 in Coram all day because that is not plowed either. This is not cute anymore.
Tom February 11, 2013 at 04:38 AM
Keep electing the same clowns. You know the ones that go on vacation during a storm. Your right he was OK until he got elected like the rest of the clowns.
Tom February 11, 2013 at 04:43 AM
I think he should be forced to step down as well as the clown in the highway department.
Scott Lindsay February 11, 2013 at 07:57 PM
A post on News 12 by one of the private hire plows that the town uses gives a telling story about why my neighbors and I had to clear the street ourselves: "it snowed 26 inches in 2009 and nothing like this!!we dont plow for Town of Brookhaven anymore 3 yrs ago they tripled the amount of ins u would need and it was way toooo steep for my blood and 100s of others so they lost many hire ons but didnt care because it hadnt really snowed now we have a storm and I am shocked at how bad our rds are" comment posted on: Brookhaven Deputy Supervisor Panico: Unplowed roads 'unacceptable' longisland.news12.com
