Teen Mauled by Boat Propellor in Mount Sinai Accident

Strong wave knocks boat's driver overboard into the Long Island Sound.

A teen boater was seriously injured by a propeller on Sunday evening while fishing in the Long Island Sound near Mount Sinai, according to Suffolk County police.

Police said the 18-year-old man seriously injured his arm after a strong wave caused him to lose grip on the wheel, carrying him overboard and into the boat's propeller on Sunday at roughly 6:15 p.m.

Another teen pulled the injured young man back onboard the 17-foot Grady White and managed to steer the boat back to Mount Sinai Harbor, where he called for help, according to police.

The teen boater was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment.

Police have not released the name of the injured man.
