Two Duck Hunters Get Rescued From Mount Sinai Harbor Sunday

Michael Dombroski and Anthony Dombroski's boat got stuck after harsh waters trapped them from getting back to shore

Sunday morning, two duck hunters got stuck after their boat was carried away by waves in the Mount Sinai Harbor.

The Mount Sinai Harbor surrounds an island that many Long Islanders use as a vacation spot. Residents can stay in private homes or in small hotels. It addition to the scenery, the island offers everything from baseball, croquet, card games, dancing, theatrical productions, social events, swimming, boating and fishing. So it is a common place for boaters. However, things didn't go according to plan for two duck hunters on Sunday.

The Mount Sinai Fire Department said it received a call at around 10 a.m. from Suffolk County police that the "boat became detached from the island," said First Assistant Chief Jaime Baldassare in an interview with Newsday. "The two men were fine; they just couldn't get off the island."

According to a Public Information Officer (PIO), fire departments from the area responded to help rescue the men that were stuck, 35 year-old Michael Dombroski and 39-year-old Anthony Dombroski. The PIO said no one was injured or taken to the hospital.

According to Newsday, Mount Sinai fire chief David Taylor said department members were unable to launch their Boston Whaler "because of the ice on the boat ramp," so Rocky Point officials launched their boat right off the beach to make the rescue and turned the men over to an awaiting police boat.
