Local Company Drops Huge Slab on Road, Causes Wreck

Stone slab weighing 1,800 pounds falls onto the Southern State Parkway.

A Port Jefferson company's repairs to the Southern State Parkway overpass collapsed causing a two-car accident on Monday.

Suffolk County Police said a stone slab fell from a Southern State Parkway overpass near Exit 20, Grand Avenue, in Baldwin, reports Newsday. The 1,800 pound slab hit construction scaffolding before falling onto the parkway.

Village Dock Inc, of Port Jefferson, was making repairs to the overpass using the stone slab. Police said they believe the slab fell because equipment holding it in place was likely affected by the wet weather.
