Meetups and events planned in the area for various candidates.

On April 24, the Republican primaries will be held in New York State and many local groups are starting to coalesce around their favorite candidate to go up against President Obama in the general election.

According to www.2012presidentialelectionnews.com Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island all have primary elections that day as well. New York has 95 delegates up for grabs, the most of any state voting on April 24.

“With 95 delegates at stake, New York will play a decisive role in this year’s Republican Presidential nominating contest," state GOP chairman Ed Cox is quoted as saying by various sources in a statement released by the organization.

Locally, Republicans are getting excited that the state is going to be so integral in deciding who will represent the party.

A Port Jefferson Station resident formed a Meetup two years ago to support the conservative movement and he has organized 23 meetings since then. The next meetup is scheduled for May 6. The plan according to the website is to "organize a campaign to educate the public and arm them with the truth."
