@ Marc. What happened?
Marc August 03, 2012 at 03:22 PM
Well, Frank,it was a balmy night last outside of Dodici, our lovely family restaurant block, when, on the corner of S Park and Village, a brawl broke out, punches were thrown and a kid was being punted down the road. Another faction of kids across the street wanted to get involved but, thankfully, RVC's finest were johnny-on-the spot and a serious event was averted. Let me be clear before the verbal assaults on my person begin: I HAVE NO IDEA WHO THESE KIDS WERE OR WHERE THEY WERE FROM. Were they from RVC? No idea? Queens? No idea. South Carolina? No idea. OKAY? The simple point is,it appears to me, they're seems to be an increase of youth-oriented violence occurring recently in the Village. Some will say: "boys will be boys." Others will say: "This is what good friends do when they hang out,not dance at dorky parties." Others may say: "Its a rite of passage." And, still, others may say: This is unacceptable! Something must be done!" These are our kids out there. Which of the above are you?

Marc, my answer would simply be that actions have consequences. A public brawl is violation of community law, and punishment commensurate with the crime should be meted out to the transgressors.

Preaching to the choir....
RVC native August 03, 2012 at 04:04 PM
Brian: You are most certainly a child posing as an adult. The very name RVC Native means I was born, raised and still reside in RVC. The parties are in RVC, attended by many, many responsible teens who just want to have a good time- and they know how to do that without getting wasted because they are all very self-assured and don't need it. They turn my house into a nightclub- 1 of them brings his DJ stuff, the blacklights go on, and there you go: a night of complete FUN. My neighbors don't mind the noise because they appreciate they are not smoking pot or drinking/stumbling onto their property. to the 'real' adults posting: these kids were raised with respect- to give respect to others and to expect to be respected. They had to earn privileges- a little at a time, and to understand no means NO. My teen had earned the privilege at 15 years old to venture into NYC without adults and they do it all the time now. Its all about trust, respect and PARENTING! We don't need more rules in town, or more police ($$) etc.
