Library Board of Trustees Election Results

With 211 ballots cast the winners from a slate of six candidates were announced for the three open seats on the Port Jefferson Library Board of Trustees.

The winners in the election for three open seats on the Board of Trustees for were announced just after 10:30 p.m. last night. After counting the 211 ballots cast, Adam DeWitt won the top spot with 125 votes winning a five-year seat, Laura Hill Timpanaro received 118 votes taking the second five-year seat and Tracy J. Stapleton took the remaining one-year seat with 104 votes. There were six candidates in total.

The five-year term seats were vacated by board members, Clifford Dittrich and Dr. Wolf Schäfer. Neither sought reelection after serving on the board for ten years. The last seat was a one-year term that was vacated in May, 2009 and never filled.

Stapleton’s term will be completed in Jan. 2012. At that time she will have to run again for a full five-year term; the only seat scheduled to be up for election next year.

Voting took place by paper ballot at the library in the adult reading room from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to Valerie Schwarz who is confidential secretary at the library, people had the opportunity to vote for up to three candidates.

“Most people did in fact vote for three but others only chose one or two,” she said.

All of the winners will be seated at the Feb. 28 library board meeting.
