Mayor Swearing in New Port Jeff Village Trustee

New trustee, Bruce D'Abramo is member of Port Jefferson Lions Club.

After former Port Jefferson village trustee James Burke , the task of replacing him according to village law fell into the lap the mayor.

At the time Mayor Margot Garant said she was looking for "someone with commitment, vision and passion." On Monday night, Garant will swear in the person whom she thinks will fit the bill, Bruce D'Abramo.

Garant says D'Abramo, a lifelong Long Islander, married his wife, Maureen, in 1970, and adopted a son Michael in 1978. After serving five years in the U.S. Army and National Guard, he reached the rank of Platoon Sergeant. He received his education at SUNY Farmingdale and Hofstra University as a Civil Engineer.

After 34 years, D'Abramo retired in 2006 as superintendent of buildings and grounds at a Long Island school district and served as president of the Suffolk County Superintendent of School Buildings and Grounds Association.

D'Abramo is already involved with Port Jefferson village government, sitting on the Architectural Review Committee since 2007.

He is also a member of the Port Jefferson Lions Club where he has served in every office and was president from 1992 to 1993. According to his LinkedIn profile, he is also the chairman of the board of directors for the Lions' Long Island Eye Bank.

D'Abramo volunteers as a driver for Three Village Meals on Wheels.

He served the Town of Babylon town engineer's office as an engineering consultant to the Planning and Appeals boards and helped establish the Town of Babylon department of environmental control. D'Abramo was as environmental facilities manager for both Babylon and Brookhaven towns.
