Mount Sinai High School Students Make Eagle Scout

Thomas Bundy and Patrick Holomshek, both of Mount Sinai, were honored by local legislators for their achievements.

One hundred years ago, a 17-year old Long Island boy named Arthur Eldred earned America's first Eagle Scout Award. Since that day in 1912, only 4 percent of all Scouts have ever attained the rank of Eagle Scout, according to a statement released by Brookhaven Councilwoman Jane Bonner who, along with Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker, honored two more additions to that exclusive group.

On June 2, Mount Sinai residents Patrick Holomshek and Thomas Bundy of Troop 384 had their Court of Honor at Mt. Sinai High School as they attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Both Bonner and Anker were on hand to congratulate the boys for their achievement.

Anker said that the boys were “outstanding leaders within the community” and thanked them for their Eagle Scout projects to help their neighbors. Bonner also commended the new Eagle Scouts for their success and for their projects, saying that they have made the community a better place.

Bundy's project consisted of building, donating, installing and networking three new computers and a new printer for the Seabury Barn in Mt. Sinai, a safe haven for runaway and abused teenagers run by Smith Haven Ministries.

Holomshek’s project was the construction of a large stone with six, eight-inch round bronze plaques, one for each branch of the Armed Forces and one in honor of the U.S. Constitution that he had installed at Mount Sinai’s Heritage Park. He also donated and installed six flagpoles and flags along the Avenue of Americas at the park.

“I’m sure that these fine young men will continue their service and become future leaders that their families and all our residents can be proud of,” said Bonner in a statement.
