Paid Parking Suspended For the Winter in Port Jefferson

Starting Monday through March 14, 2013 parking meters will be turned off in the village.

Parking meters in Port Jefferson will be turned off for the winter, according to a statement on the village's website.

On Monday, paying to park will be on an official hiatus as the village suspends the metered parking throughout Port Jefferson in what is an annual tradition.

New meters recently installed by the village replaced ones that had caused headache for users, including long waits for credit card authorizations sometimes resulting in total failure to connect. The new technology also includes a mobile app that allows patrons to pay through their smartphones.
