Port Jeff Election: Victory For Graham in Court Justice Race

Incumbent, Peter Graham wins another term as Port Jefferson village judge.

In the only race where there was any drama, Peter Graham, the incumbent with more than ten years on the bench in roundly won the election on Tuesday night against challengers Patricia Issberner and William Glass.

The final count in the justice race was 457 votes for Graham, 234 for Glass and 158 for Issberner.

The other village seats up for grabs included the mayorship and two trustee positions. All three candidates in those races went unopposed.

Mayor Grant received 654 votes for mayor even though she had no challengers. The two open village trustee seats will be filled by current board member Adrienne Kessel and new member Larry LaPointe, replacing trustee Leslea Snyder. Snyder decided not to run again. With two open seats and two candidates, Kessel and LaPointe slipped into those positions unchallenged gaining 562 and 553 votes respectively.

There were five write-in votes for four candidates the trustee positions. Mike Lee received two write-in votes. Audrey Prochilo got one write in vote as did Mike Burner and Jenna Boehn.

There were 851 votes counted on the voting machines and 20 absentee ballots for a total of 871 votes.

According to the election inspectors and Village Clerk’s office, the turnout this year was low in comparison to past elections. They cited the uncontested and unopposed contests and the fact that there were no issues on the ballot to vote for as the reason.

The took place on Tuesday, June 21 at between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m.
