Port Jeff Village Making Changes to Ease Solar Energy Adoption

Removing hurdles to installing solar energy systems will fast-track approvals.

The village of Port Jefferson is looking to make it easier for residents to install rooftop solar electric panels and hot water energy systems, according to a story in the Port Times Record.

In order to do that a village ordinence must be amended.

"From when the board closed the public hearing Monday night, residents have 10 days to send a letter of comment to Village Hall before the board makes a decision on the matter," the paper reported.

Changing the ordinence will result in "a new fast-track application process" that "will save time, eliminate paperwork, protect public safety and speed up approvals, something that the village's Planning Board recommends."
