For the 2012 Elections, voters in the Port Jefferson Area will be deciding races on the state and federal level. Perhaps the hottest matchup, aside from the presidential race, is First Congressional District rematch between Rep. Tim Bishop, D-Southampton, and Republican and St. James businessman Randy Altschuler. On the state level, the state Senate race between incumbent Sen. Kenneth LaValle and Bridget Fleming is an active one, while state Assemblyman Steve Englebright faces a tough rematch of his own against Deborah McKee.

Voters will also decide the next Brookhaven Town Supervisor in November, after Mark Lesko abruptly resigned to run a regional think tank, Accelerate Long Island.
