Port Jefferson Seeks New Village Engineer

New hire will need five years experience.

Port Jefferson is looking for a new engineer, according to a job post on LinkedIn, a professional social networking website. The job was posted on Wednesday by Stacey French, the village’s deputy treasurer.

Along with general engineering the duties, the new hire will be responsible for reviewing building, construction and road construction plans, ensure village and New York State code compliance, provide oversight for road/drainage reconstruction projects, manage a budget and assist the public with building department related questions. The Village Engineer also oversees a staff of five employees.

The candidate must have five years of civil or mechanical engineering, municipal and land use experience.

Kevin Koubek, who held the position as Director of Planning and Engineering for the village for 20 years went to to .

In the meantime, the village depended on Denise Harrington, who was hired as Village Planner in 2011, to pick up some of the slack.

“We’re extremely pleased with her professionalism and planning skills,” Mayor Margot Garant .

The village Board of Trustees and human resources said at the time that they were looking to hire a part time independent contractor to work directly with the department to determine its needs, review processes and figure out just what kind of background they want in any potential candidates for the job.
