Sand Replenishment Project Closes Cedar Beach

Beach will be closed from Tuesday to Friday.

Beach lovers will have to head elsewhere for their fix of sun and sand as Cedar Beach in Mt. Sinai will be closed from Tuesday until Friday to replenish the sand and regrade the beach.

The project, according to the town, is a result of damage done by Super Storm Sandy as well as other recent storms according to a Brookhaven Town spokesperson.

The project is being implemented by the Town’s Parks and Waste Management departments and comes at no additional cost, according to Jack Krieger, spokesman for the town.

"The work is being done during town hours using town equipment and town employees during regular business hours," said Krieger. "The sand being used is being moved from one place to another."
