State senator Ken LaValle, R-Port Jefferson, had to figure out a way to get to his car after discovering that it was underwater in a parking lot in the village.
"It's quite an interesting situation," he said when Patch happened across the New York State senator on Arden Place Friday afternoon.
LaValle took off his shoes, rolled up his suit pants and waded through the water to get to his car.
One village worker who was helping to clean up after the flooding shouted, "You got my vote!"
"The things I have to do to get a vote," LaValle replied.
