Village: Parking Meters Will Go Live on March 15

Winter holiday for pay parking will end this month.

Village board member Laurence LaPointe announced on Monday night at the monthly trustee meeting that the parking meters in Port Jefferson will be turned back on as scheduled on March 15.

Last year, , saying that the extra weeks would help local businesses in a tough economy especially after a particularly snowy winter. This year, better weather allowed the village to stick to the regular schedule of switching the meters back on in mid-March.

"The weather last year was unbearable and we extended (the holiday) due to that," said Mayor Margot Garant in an email. "This year we've had moderate weather and that has had a more favorable impact on our businesses."
