Feline Nutrition .. All Kitties are Obligate Carnivores

Part of what I love about the pet food business is the opportunity to educate people about proper nutrition of their pet.

As kitty parents its important to know feline are considered
"obligate" carnivores . What the heck is an "obligate" carnivore you ask? According to the Webster dictionary obligate means "biologically essential for survival".

Carnivores + Cats = Cats need meat to survive.

Do you purchase your cat food in the supermarket? Unfortunately, although convenient, many supermarket brands do not have the essential nutritional elements to properly nourish your kitty.

Look at the first ingredients on the label.. Ground corn meal, corn meal gluten, soy bean meal... Where's the meat? Although your kitty gobbles down this mix like its candy, there is no nutritional value at all in the food.  These ingredients are considered Non-species appropriate.

Kitties NEED Protein from quality animal tissue in order to thrive. The protein in quality animal tissue has a complete amino acid profile. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. Can't get that in plant protein nor does your kitty's body have the capacity to properly digest plant based proteins.

An essential amino acid for kitties is Taurine, which is found in animal muscle meat (liver and heart especially) . If your kitty has a Taurine deficiency this may lead to a host of health problems including cardiovascular disease and blindness.

As I read this blog back to myself, my brain is saying " that is a lot of information to digest!" (No pun intended)..

I have seen first hand the transformation of kitties that went from unhealthy, non nutritional diets and replaced them with protein based, complete diets  many times over.  They had more energy, became healthier, the sparkle came back to their eyes, and they even shed less!
