Engagement Not Economy is Reason For Closing of Chantilly Lace on Main Street

Owner Jodi Mooney, of Mt. Sinai, is getting married and moving to Philadelphia.

For more than 16 years, Chantilly Lace had been a Main Street staple in Port Jefferson but the upscale clothing and lingerie shop has closed its doors. You might think that the economy had something to do with it but you’d be wrong, according to owner Jodi Mooney.

Mooney, a Mt. Sinai resident until very recently, got engaged and is relocating to Philadelphia to start a new life.

“It’s a life change,” she said among the bare walls and spare items still left in the store on Friday afternoon.

No one is continuing the business. Mooney said that there were so many components to her old business that it might have proved difficult for others to just walk in and take it over.

As for the state of business before she decided to close?

“It was very successful,” she said.

About two years ago, Mooney closed another location of Chantilly Lace in Huntington.

The store’s location in Port Jefferson has already already been rented by the landlord but the new owner is not known as of yet.

One thing is for sure. It will not become another piece of empty Main Street real estate Mooney happily reported.
