Fun Local History Events this Weekend at the Library

Fun local history events that are being offered this weekend.

Port Jefferson village will host its this weekend; May 12-13. To kick off this festival, the will host speaker, Tara Rider, as she returns to present A Look at Long Island’s Maritime History. Join us for an explanation of Long Island's maritime traditions including a look back at whaling, the Montauk lighthouse and shipbuilding. This program will be held on Friday May 11, 2012 at 6:30 pm in the meeting room. To register for this please call the library at (631) 473-0022.

Don’t like big crowds? Don’t worry we have a program for you. This Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 1 pm, patrons of the Port Jefferson Free Library will get a chance to get a personal tour of the William Miller House in Miller Place. Home of the Miller Place-Mount Sinai Historical Society, the Miller House was built in 1720 by Andrew Miller Sr., grandfather of William Miller for whom the house is named. The Miller House was acquired by the Miller Place-Mount Sinai Historical Society in 1979 from the estate of Harry Millard, the last lineal descendant of William Miller.
