Commack School Officials to Discuss Sandy's Impact on District

Commack Board of Education will hold its monthly meeting 8 p.m. Thursday at Hubbs Administrative Center.

Commack school officials will openly discuss both the impact Hurricane Sandy had on the district and its response on Thursday night.

Commack Board of Education will hold its monthly meeting 8 p.m. Thursday at the Hubbs Administrative Center on Clay Pitts Road.

Commack schools were closed for a full week following the devastation and destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy, or as some are calling it a 'superstorm." The hurricane felled trees and downed power lines across Commack, including temporarily rendering Townline Road impassable.

Commack school officials will present a full administrative report on the impact and district's response to "Super-storm Sandy" from the district's perspective. It is unknown whether the administration will address the issues of whether the lost school days will be made up or they will look to legislation that proposes district's affected could shorten the school year up to 170 days.

Commack schools are collecting non-perishable goods and personal items to Strike Out Sandy at all buildings through Nov. 30.

In addition, the school district will vote on whether to accept a baby grand piano donated by Frank Van Zant and funds to create a National Science Bowl Club at Commack High School.

Once again, they violated state law by not publishing their agenda enough time ahead of the meeting. Clearly they think they are above the law.
