Comsewogue School Seeking To Push Past State Tax Cap

Superintendent says he hopes to get votes to override the tax levy.

Comsewogue school district is looking to get the public behind a tax levy increase of 4.5 percent, which is 2.5 percent over the state mandated cap, according to a story in The Port Times Record on Thursday.

"Superintendent Joseph Rella recently proposed a 4.5 percent tax levy increase for the 2012-13 school year, leading to a budget that would still force the district to shave $2.1 million in costs," reported the paper. "Rella said he is hoping the community will override the state-mandated tax levy increase cap to approve such a budget."
