Comsewogue Student Gets Perfect Score On ACT

High school senior Spencer Williams defeats the odds and get a perfect score on a college preparation exam

At a recent board meeting, the Comsewogue Board of Education recognized one of their students after achieving a perfect score on the ACT, a feat that only a small percentage of the 2013 test takers accomplished.

"This is always a wonderful thing to do," said Superintendent Joe Rella. "Tonight we have a very unique or at least rare honor. One of our students, Spencer Williams, took the ACT college proficiency test, along with 1.8 billion other seniors across the United States and Spencer was in the top less than one percent," said Rella.

Williams perfect score landed him in a category with only 1,100 students out of the 1.8 billion who took the exam.

Assistant Principal Mike Mosca said he couldn't be more proud of Williams. "On top of his recent accolades he also maintains a 99.56 GPA, volunteers his time to tutor, participates in athletics and extracurricular activities and is possibly the most honest and sincere student I have ever met," said Mosca. "He goes out of his way to help others and to be a good role model for his younger twin brothers."

Williams who was humble the entire time, said he spends what "free time" he has competing in Journey Martial Arts and working at Carlo's Pizza Oven as a bus boy, cleaning tables and taking plates from customers.

In a bio that Williams wrote, he said one of the best programs he participates in is tutoring, specifically for a young college student. "The tutoring covers a broad spectrum, based on whatever subject they need help with at the time," said Williams. "Nothing gives me more pleasure than to see the significant improvement she has made in her class."
