Departing School Board Member Leaves Emotional Facebook Goodbye

Lance Brown has indicated he will resign from the Comsewogue school board.

Former Comsewogue school board vice president Lance Brown, who is resigning from his post on the Board of Education to retire and move away from the area, has left a public farewell note on the Comsewogue Community Facebook page.

"Comsewogue will forever be my home, the birthplace of my children, the foundation for which my children will build their lives upon. I leave with heartfelt sadness and a sense I am leaving a family member behind," Brown said. "It is a truly wonderful community. I will hold close to me a sense that I have gained lifelong friends and that Comsewogue has given my children the tools necessary to continue to succeed as they move on with their education."

Brown, who had retired from his 15-year post as a sergeant in the Nassau County Police Department, told The Port Times Record that he will be working for Duke University in North Carolina as a police officer.

In his Facebook note, Brown thanked his neighbors and colleagues for the many kindnesses he has experienced and friendships he has made.

He closed his Facebook note with some "simple reminders."

"Life is constantly changing but what eases the change are the friends we make along the way," Brown said. "Cherish those friendships, be kind to each other, pay it forward when you can and lastly, do not only stop to smell the roses but plant a new rose bud seed as well."
