The Culper Spy Ring

George Washington was in need of good intelligence after he evacuated the Continental Army from New York City in September of 1776. The Culper Spy Ring was created on Long Island in 1778 by Major Benjamin Tallmadge of Setauket, under Washington’s leadership. This colorful presentation reveals how the five “Culpers” gathered information about the British military activity on Long Island and in Manhattan and sent it to General Washington despite constant danger. Our presenter is educator, historian and lecturer, Professor John Molfetta.
