Letter: Robert Ramus Announces Re-election Bid For Port Jeff School Board Seat

A letter from Port Jefferson School Board member, Robert Ramus announcing his intention to run for re-election.

To the Editor,

I would like to take this opportunity to announce my intentions to seek re-election to the School Board of Education for the .  As I approach the end of my first term, I feel that one of the most important things I can do is to carry on serving the Port Jefferson community in this capacity. I knew three years ago that I would make a significant commitment in time and effort to sit on the board, but I do it because I love this community and truly believe that we have one of the best public school districts in the country.

However, the best can always be better, and we have some significant challenges ahead of us. Therefore, in the face of that adversity I challenge the district, and myself, to find opportunities were we can excel.

Our reputation as a “public school in a private school setting” precedes us and we must continually advance this district as an educational center of excellence. We must give our children the opportunities they deserve to learn beyond the standard (or mandated) core curriculum. We must be innovative and creative in our approach to education. We must provide a quality education that demonstrates our wisdom and willingness to help our children succeed.

But our School Board must also show a fiduciary responsibility to the taxpayers of this community. We need to be smart in our spending and reduce our costs in order to protect the system we are building as well as our home values. We need to develop a quality educational system that adds value to our community and the lives of our children, but one that is also financially sustainable and does not cause unnecessary hardship to us all.

Over the past three years I’ve worked hard to hear the community, enhance our children’s education, and protect the financial interests of the taxpayers I serve.  Please go to www.RobertRamus.net to learn more about me, find me on Facebook or Twitter, and sign my guest register. But most of all, when you enter the polls on May 17 please consider voting for me.

Respectfully yours,
Robert Ramus
